During his long tenure of office as President and Senior President of Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TN Chamber) from 1993 onwards, Shri S. Rethinavelu conceptualized the idea of constituting a trust by name Tamilnadu Chamber Foundation to run special motivational and skill development programmes, conduct trade promotional and charitable activities and establish several infrastructure and facilitation centres for the growth of trade and industry at global level. In culmination of the idea, several like minded gentlemen joined together as the founders and initiators and constituted Tamilnadu Chamber Foundation, which was registered at Madurai on 12 th day of September 2011. TN Chamber bifurcated its special activities, like running several fora, trade fair etc., from its regular activities of making representations on behalf of trade and industry to the Central and State Governments, and handed over the same to TNC Foundation. All such activities are being carried on efficaciously by TNC Foundation with Shri S.Rethinavelu as Chairman, Shri V.Neethi Mohan as Managing Trustee and Shri N.Jegatheesan as Trustee – Finance.

TN Chamber

Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TN Chamber) was established in the year 1924 at Madurai with the primary objective of serving the cause of trade and industry. TN Chamber is one of the largest Chambers in India and well renowned and proactive Chamber, making effective and result oriented representations for the growth of the trade and industry and for the cause of public welfare. TN Chamber was responsible for getting several key infrastructure in Southern Tamilnadu for industrial and economic development in the region.

Rethinavelu was Young Entrepreneur School (YES), constituted in 2004 to impart required training to the youth to successfully combat the challenges and problems associated with the modern day entrepreneurship. It was followed by ChaAT (Chamber Arbitration Tribunal) an alternate dispute resolution forum to settle commercial disputes in 2007, Business Promotion Centre (BPC) to infuse confidence and provide guidance to retail traders and face competition from FDI, Women Entrepreneurs (WE) to enlighten, empower, enrich women entrepreneurs, SHARP- to provide required training for students in soft skills, Export Promotion Centre (EPC) to promote exim trade, Save to be Saved to provide training and required know how for selling products in international markets, Tour-i- ST(Tour in Southern Tamilnadu) to entice large number of foreign tourists to southern Tamilnadu and DIGIT-ALL to inculcate digital knowledge to one and all.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam during his tenure as His Excellency the President of India visited TN Chamber and interacted with Members of YES and Chamber on 27 th August 2004. DIGIT ALL had the privilege of being inaugurated by him on 18 th July 2015, a few days before his departure from the nether world.

Convention and Trade Centre

Tamilnadu Chamber Foundation conducted Chamber Trade Fair every year at Madurai and now it is in the process of establishing either on its own or under PPP mode an all inclusive Convention and Trade Centre in Madurai, on lines of Chennai Trade Centre at Chennai and CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex at Coimbatore for conducting trade fairs, seminars, workshops and conventions throughout the year, and as an important forward linkage infrastructure providing market connectivity for domestic and international markets. About 15 acres of land in the suburb of Madurai has been acquired by Tamilnadu Chamber Foundation for the purpose.
